Neighboring countries tremble as Bangladesh recovers from devastating quake.
As Bangladesh is still recovering from a severe earthquake, Myanmar, Thailand, and Malaysia experienced tremors yesterday. According to the earthquake monitoring website EarthquakeTracker.com, a total of 94 earthquakes were recorded worldwide in the last 24 hours.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Myanmar yesterday morning, which was also felt in various parts of Thailand. So far, no casualties or significant damage have been reported.
Sources say the earthquake hit at 10:39 AM local time in Myanmar. Its epicenter was located 267 kilometers southwest of Dawei city, in the Andaman Sea, at a depth of just 10 kilometers.
On the same day, another earthquake struck Indonesia’s North Maluku Province, with a magnitude of 5.2, felt in the Halmahera region.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers, and no casualties were reported.
It is noteworthy that last Friday, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Bangladesh killed at least 10 people, including two children, and injured several hundred. The following day, Saturday, three more minor tremors were felt across the country.
94 Earthquakes Recorded Worldwide in 24 Hours
According to EarthquakeTracker.com, 91 tremors were recorded globally in just one day. Over the past seven days, the total number of earthquakes reached 852.
